Maruti Suzuki has taken a major step forward in passenger safety by announcing that all variants of its popular models
— Ertiga and Baleno — will now come equipped with six airbags as standard. The safety upgrade will come into effect from July 16, along with a moderate price hike.
Improved Safety Over Variated Levels
Six airbags will be standard on both the Ertiga and Baleno thanks to this upgrade starting at the basic models. This decision comes before India’s forthcoming safety standards, which are expected to require six airbags in all passenger cars beginning October 2025.

Maruti Suzuki’s larger dedication to safety is reflected in the choice. Six airbags have already been fitted by the firm on other models including the Swift, Dzire, Brezza, WagonR, and Alto K10.
Revised Pricing List (ExShowroom)
Baleno: ₹6.70 lakh – ₹9.92 lakh
Ertiga: ₹8.97 lakh– ₹13.25 lakh
The Ertiga’s price has risen by 1.4%, whilst the Baleno’s pricing has increased by 0.5% as a result of extra safety measures. Maruti Suzuki made it clear that increased input expenses and more equipment caused the price adjustment.

Matching with Maruti’s Safety Shield Vision
Long-term safety shield program of Maruti Suzuki, which seeks to standardize safety features including:
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- EBD ABS
- Anchors for ISOFIX kid seats
- Rapid-speed alert systems
Six airbags as standard across all passenger vehicles by the end of 2025 would be the aim of the brand.
This decision follows the government’s push for improved safety features in passenger vehicles under the M1 category, with Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari consistently urging automakers to make six airbags mandatory.
Driver and co-driver airbags were made compulsory in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
The update also comes at a time when Maruti Suzuki is facing sales pressure. The company reported a 6% year-on-year drop in total sales for June 2025, selling 1.68 lakh units compared to 1.79 lakh units a year ago. Domestic passenger vehicle sales declined by 13%, falling to 1.19 lakh units in the same period.
Maruti Suzuki’s decision to standardize six airbags in the Ertiga and Baleno is a bold and responsible step toward safer roads in India.
It not only preempts regulatory changes but also meets rising customer expectations for better in-cabin protection.
With the price increase kept minimal, this update enhances the overall value proposition of two of the company’s best-selling models.
